US CPI PRINTS HOTTER THAN EXPECTED AT 3.4%, DOLLAR INDEX SURGES
WASHINGTON, May 12 (Reuters). US consumer prices
rose more than expected in April, with annual CPI
printing at 3.4% versus a 3.1% consensus — a hot
reading that could delay the rate cuts the Federal
Reserve was widely expected to begin later this year.
The dollar index extended gains in early NY trade.
